SmartRent Is Here for You: Hurricane Support
Following Hurricane Helene and as we monitor Hurricane Milton's developments, we hope you are safe. As always, our priority is supporting you and ensuring you are aware of the functionality of your SmartRent solutions during this time.
For Residents:
Battery-Powered Locks: Accessible Without Power or Cell Service
In the event of a power outage or cell service loss, you can continue accessing your unit. Your smart lock is battery-powered - as long as you have your access codes handy, you will be able to unlock your door if you cannot use your app due to loss of cell service.
For Smart Communities Solutions Customers:
Common Area Access Control: Built-In Failure Modes
SmartRent’s access control systems are typically implemented with a back-up battery system that provides an additional 24-48 hours of power during an outage. If power remains out and batteries become depleted, in accordance with fire codes and depending on the community’s decision made during installation, community access point doors are either configured to a fail-safe state where doors are automatically unlocked or a fail-secure state where access point doors remain locked when power is lost.
For Smart Operations Solutions Customers:
The following is a quick review of Smart Operations features that can support your community in emergency situations:
Custom Announcements: Communities with Answer Automation can easily record announcements to inform residents of important updates, office closures and more.
Messages: Communities using our resident app and Work Management can effectively communicate a message to their community via email and/or SMS message.
